Wildlife team captures bear in Midoora Awantipora

Awantipora: A team of wildlife dept on Saturday captured a bear in Midoora village of Awantipora tehsil in South Kashmir, officials said.

They said that after getting information about the presence of bear in Midoora village, a team was deployed in the area, under the supervision of RO, and Block officer, Khanagund range.

One of the wildlife officials said, they had received information about the bear from locals, some fifteen days back, following which a cage was also placed.”

He said that team managed to capture the bear today morning, and thanked locals for their support in trapping process.

The said bear had reportedly damaged the orchards in and around the Midoora village in recent past.

It is pertinent to mention here that dozens of bears have been captured by the wildlife teams in several parts of Kashmir, in a past few months, and rescued them from residential areas to suitable habitats.

The casual labourers working in the dept have ‘played a vital role in rescue operations’ of wild animals.
