SSP Srinagar chairs crime review meeting, stresses on dismantling NDPS hotspots
Srinagar, Apr 20 : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy (IPS), on Monday chaired a comprehensive crime review meeting at the PCR Kashmir, focusing on improving investigation quality and conviction rates in cases related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and other general crimes.
The meeting was attended by all Zonal SPs, SP Headquarters, Deputy SPs (Headquarters), all SDPOs, DySP DAR, SHOs, in-charge police posts, and district police office officials, officials said.
According to a police spokesperson, threadbare discussions were held to enhance the quality of investigation and prosecution in cases registered under UAPA, NDPS, and general crime categories. Key areas reviewed included POCSO cases, crimes against women, murders, thefts, burglaries, action against absconders and proclaimed offenders, grievance redressal, organised crime, and implementation of Nyaya Sakshya.
SSP Chakravarthy laid special emphasis on expediting the disposal of pending cases, strengthening investigation in UAPA and NDPS cases through professional handling, and enhancing conviction rates by strictly adhering to legal provisions and SOPs. He also directed officers to identify and attach properties and freeze bank accounts linked to illegal proceeds of crimes.
The SSP stressed intensified action against drug trafficking and directed officers to dismantle NDPS hotspots systematically. Investigating officers were instructed to explore forward and backward linkages in all NDPS and UAPA cases and ensure financial investigations to trace illegal proceeds.
The meeting also highlighted the ongoing three-month Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, launched on April 9, 2026. SSP Srinagar stressed coordinated efforts between police and district administration to raise awareness about drug abuse, involving community leaders and Imams for public sensitisation.
Officers were directed to take strict action against drug peddlers, including the cancellation of passports, Aadhaar cards, and driving licences as per law.
Expressing concern over acquittals or discharges in certain UAPA and NDPS cases, the SSP instructed officers to address investigative shortcomings. SHOs were directed to conduct regular review meetings with investigating officers to enhance skills and ensure accountability.
SSP Chakravarthy reiterated that progress would be reviewed in subsequent meetings, and strict action would be taken against officers failing to meet targets. The meeting concluded with directions to all officers to work with renewed commitment for effective crime control and a safer Srinagar.
