Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Across J&K; IMD Issues Weather Advisory

Srinagar, June 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in parts of the Jammu division on June 12.

According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, weather conditions are likely to remain unstable over the next few days, with fairly widespread to scattered rain and thunderstorms expected across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

The IMD has also warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph at some places in both divisions between June 11 and June 14. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations in the Jammu division on June 12.

Meanwhile, temperatures remained above normal across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours. Qazigund recorded the highest temperature in Kashmir division at 32.8°C, while Kathua was the hottest place in Jammu division with 43.4°C.

For Srinagar city, the weather office has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain or thunderstorms on June 12, with temperatures likely to hover around 28°C maximum and 17°C minimum.

The MeT Department has advised residents, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to remain alert and follow weather updates in view of the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the coming days.
