J&K Police intensifies action against social crimes; Gambler apprehended in Baramulla
Continuing its action against social crimes, J&K Police apprehended one person during a raid against illegal gambling at Khanpora and seized stake money, playing cards, and mobile phones from the spot.Acting on reliable information, a police party from Police Station Baramulla conducted a raid near a water reservoir/pond at Khanpora, where individuals were reportedly gambling for money, causing inconvenience and resentment among the general public. During the operation, one person was apprehended on the spot identified as Manzoor Ahmad Sofi, son of Gh. Nabi Sofi, resident of Khanpora. Three other individuals fled the spot. Their identities have been ascertained, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Officers recovered stake money amounting to ₹1,720/-, playing cards, and three mobile phones from the spot. Accordingly, a case under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Baramulla, and investigation has been initiated. Further investigation is in progress.Police remains committed to curbing illegal gambling and other social crimes and urges the public to cooperate in maintaining peace, public order, and a safe environment in the district.
