Calls for Public-Centric Policing, Strong Stakeholder Coordination and Effective Measures to Reduce Congestion
Srinagar, July 9: Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Suleman Choudhary, on Thursday undertook a comprehensive inspection of traffic management arrangements across the downtown areas of Srinagar, issuing directions for a stronger crackdown on traffic-obstructing encroachments and emphasising a people-friendly approach to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
According to the Kashmir News Correspondent (KNC), the IGP Traffic, accompanied by SSP Traffic City Srinagar Ajaz Ahmad Bhat and DySP G.M. Bhat, visited several key locations to assess the prevailing traffic situation and review the effectiveness of existing traffic management measures.
During the visit, the IGP instructed traffic officers to intensify efforts to ease congestion in busy localities by adopting a coordinated, public-oriented strategy while ensuring efficient regulation of traffic movement.
He appreciated the recent initiatives taken by the Traffic Police to improve vehicular mobility in the downtown areas and called for sustained efforts to further reduce congestion, particularly in commercial zones and other high-density locations.
The IGP also directed officers to maintain a visible presence on roads, extend maximum assistance to commuters, and ensure better traffic regulation around major markets and places of religious significance where traffic pressure remains high.
Issuing strict instructions against illegal encroachments, Suleman Choudhary asked officers to remove all obstructions affecting the free flow of traffic and ensure that roads remain accessible for commuters and emergency services.
He further stressed the importance of involving all stakeholders, including traders, transport operators and local residents, in developing long-term solutions aimed at improving the overall traffic scenario in downtown Srinagar.
During the inspection, the IGP also reviewed the functioning of the recently introduced one-way traffic system at various locations and assessed its impact on traffic flow.
Meanwhile, several members of the public interacted with the IGP during the visit and expressed appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by the Traffic Police to improve traffic regulation and commuter convenience in the city. (KNC)
