Five Foreign Militants Killed in Gunfight along Line of Control in Kupwara District, Kashmir
June 16, 2023 : In a recent development, a gunfight erupted along the Line of Control (LoC) at Jumagand in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, resulting in the death of five foreign militants. The encounter took place during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, confirmed the incident via a tweet, stating that the search operation in the area is currently underway.
This marks the second gunfight in the district within a week. Earlier, on Tuesday, the police had reported the killing of two militants in a joint operation conducted by the Army and Police in the Dobanar area of the Machil sector.
It is noteworthy that the number of infiltrations has decreased since the February 2021 pact between the armies of the two nations. This decline has positively impacted the security situation in the region, including a decrease in ceasefire violations.
As a result of improved security, tourism activities have started to gain momentum in previously restricted areas, particularly in the Kashmir Valley.
