Cold Wave Deepens as Night Temperatures Dip Sharply Across Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 23: Kashmir witnessed a biting cold wave on Saturday night as temperatures dropped steeply across the Valley, with many areas slipping well below the freezing point.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of –2.8°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far.
In south Kashmir, widespread frost was reported as both Pahalgam and Konibal touched –3.5°C. Shopian remained the coldest spot at –4.7°C, followed closely by Pulwama at –4.4°C and Bandipora at –3.2°C.
Other regions also reported severe night temperatures:
Qazigund: –2.3°C ,Kupwara: –2.6°C,Kokernag: 0.8°C,Gulmarg: 0.0°C
Central Kashmir saw similar conditions, with Baramulla plunging to –4.5°C, Ganderbal to –1.1°C, and Sonamarg to –3.2°C, indicating a widespread freeze across the entire region.
In the Jammu division, conditions were comparatively milder. Jammu city settled at 10.1°C, while higher elevations experienced colder nights: Kishtwar (4.2°C), Batote (4.5°C), Bhaderwah (0.5°C), and Banihal (–0.5°C). Katra recorded 9.8°C, and Kathua stood at 9.2°C.
The Meteorological Department has forecast continued dry weather and clear skies, which are likely to push night temperatures even lower in the coming days.
