Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Across Jammu and Kashmir: IMD

Srinagar, May 11:The Meteorological Department has predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, gusty winds ranging between 50 and 60 kilometres per hour, with speeds reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour in some areas, are expected to affect several parts of the Union Territory.

Officials said that temperatures across the Kashmir division remained 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal during the past 24 hours, while temperatures in the Jammu division stayed near normal. Qazigund recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir at 30.3°C, while Kathua in Jammu division registered 35.6°C.

The department also reported light to moderate rainfall in many districts. Poonch received the highest rainfall of 21 millimetres, followed by Doda with 17.5 millimetres and Kathua with 12.5 millimetres.

The weather office has warned of scattered thunderstorms, lightning and possible hailstorms in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions during the next two days. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas.

For Tuesday, Srinagar is expected to witness light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with temperatures around 20°C and 9°C, while Jammu may experience cloudy skies with chances of light rain and thunderstorms and temperatures hovering around 32°C and 21°C respectively.
