Senior Hurriyat leader ,former Hurriyat conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani passes away in Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep 01 :Top Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has passed away at his home in Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening, family sources said here.
Family sources of the senior Hurriyat leader confirmed to Kashmir News Service (KNS) that he passed away at his residence at around 10 pm.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani was born on 29 September 1929. He was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
He was born in a village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and educated at Sopore.
He has served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of pro-freedom parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was an MLA from the Sopore constituency in 1972, 1977 and in 1987.
Last year, he announced his resignation as Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman.
