Srinagar, Oct 20 : During the morning hours of Thursday, Gulmarg’s higher reaches in south Kashmir’s Baramulla district received snowfall, while the plains were soaked with rain.

A meteorological department official told Arising State that several upper reaches of the valley including Gulmarg, Karnah, Sonamarg, Gurez received snowfall while plains at several places were lashed by rains resulting in cold weather conditions.

He said that light to moderate rain and snowfall over high reaches at isolated places was expected today and at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir on October 19-20. There’s no forecast of any major snowfall for the next one week to 10 days in J&K and Ladakh, he added.

Fresh snowfall has caused several roads to close, including Gurez, Karnah, and Mugal Road.

Meanwhile, the snowfall shut the Mughal road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts this evening. “We have closed the road for vehicular traffic due to slippery road conditions in view of the snowfall,” the official said, adding that it will be open only after improvement in weather.
