Jammu, April 4: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the upgradation of two major power receiving stations in central Kashmir to strengthen electricity infrastructure.
The Power Development Department (PDD) informed the Legislative Assembly, in response to a query by Tariq Hameed Karra, that the 33/11 kV receiving station at Karan Nagar will be enhanced from 2×10 MVA to 3×10 MVA. Similarly, the JVC station in Shalteng will be upgraded from 1×10 MVA to 2×10 MVA.
The department stated that tenders for the projects have already been issued, and transformers have been arranged through the Electric Centre Store Division in Pampore. These upgrades are part of the 2025–26 financial plan.
In addition, significant progress has been made under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in the Mir Gunj subdivision. Over the past year, 7,123 electric poles were installed across 26 feeders. Key installations include 510 poles at Bemina-2, 460 at Karanagar, 445 at PC Depot, and 392 at Shalteng.
The government also reported that nearly 80 km of ACSR conductor and over 343 km of AB cable were laid, along with the installation of 103 distribution transformers.
On policy matters, the government clarified that no amnesty scheme is being considered for commercial users, including MSMEs. However, the Domestic Amnesty Scheme offering a full waiver on interest for households—has been extended until March 31, 2026.
Officials added that several feeder works have been completed in areas like Shreenbagh, Zainakote, and Bemina. Ongoing work continues in JVC, Karanagar, and Bemina, while work at PC Depot is pending due to approval delays.
Targets for the 2026–27 financial year are yet to be announced.
