Former Gurez MLA Faqeer Khan Dies by Suicide in Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former MLA from Gurez, Faqeer Mohammad Khan, died by suicide at his official residence in Srinagar, officials said.
An official stated that Khan shot himself at his residence in Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar. The reason behind the tragic incident remains unknown, and authorities have initiated a probe into the matter.
Faqeer Khan had contested the 2024 Assembly elections from the Gurez constituency but was defeated by National Conference leader and former minister Nazir Ahmad Khan.
Expressing grief over Khan’s demise, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid tribute to the former legislator. In a post on X, the Office of the Chief Minister wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of former legislator Faqeer Mohd Khan. He was a true grassroots leader. My heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”
As a mark of respect, the House observed a two-minute silence in Khan’s honor.
