Encounter breaks out in Shopian village

A gunfight broke out between militants and the security forces in Check Sadiq area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday evening officials said.

An official said  that the gunfight broke out in Check Sadiq Khan area of Shopian today.

He said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR Unit and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation based on a specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering in an encounter.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone Police on its official Twitter handle said:

“#Encounter has started at Check Sadiq Khan area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice”.
