Corner Café in Anantnag vows to revive glory of old town

Anantnag, Sep 29:  Located in Cheeni Chowk locality with the shrine of Baba Hyder Reeshi (Reh) on one side and the sparkling springs of Malakhnag on the other, the café promises to revive the glory of the old town.

The initiative has been taken up by a couple- Younus Shah, a Project Manager in Information Technology (IT) company and Azra Shafi Ganai, a law postgraduate.

The Café was thrown open yesterday.

“The idea behind choosing the old town location is to reconnect with the past. The young and old can meet here and relish our roots and history,” said Shah.

He said their motive is also to create a space for friends, folks and families to socialize and cherish memories.

“ We also hope the initiative would give a fillip to the trade in the old town and create employment avenues,” Shah said.

Old town till the nineties used to be a hub of trade activities before the focus shifted to KP road and Moominabad areas of town.

However, of late many cafes, restaurants, eateries, departmental stores and branded stores are coming up in the old town also.

“Our ancestral house is here. So instead of hiring a space, they converted a portion of it into a café. We have ensured the people who hang-out here get the best possible ambience” says Shah.

He says they would strive to provide quality food and services to its customers.

“We believe in creating lovely memories which our customers can take back home and come to visit again and relish those memories over food and coffee,” says Shah.

Shah’s wife Azra says that the café would also provide opportunity to students to exchange ideas, explore career options and work on new projects and start- ups.

“ We will also have a collection of books available for our book lovers here besides the internet facility,” Azra said.
