Climate initiatives in smart cities: Srinagar gets 2- star rating, Jammu 1- star

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir’s  summer capital Srinagar has achieved an overall rating of 2- star in the Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework(CSCAF) released by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.Documents lay bare that Srinagar has got 2- star rating for climate initiatives while Jammu has achieved 1- star rating.The performances of cities has been assessed through stars achieved, spanning from 1-star to 5-star. As per the report of CSCAF, 31 cities have achieved an overall rating of 1-star; 64 cities have achieved an overall rating of 2-star; 22 cities have achieved 3-star and nine cities have achieved 4-star rating.The Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework (CSCAF) was launched in 2019 as a mechanism to assess the state of, and strengthen climate-sensitive development practices in the cities.An annual assessment of cities on climate-related parameters is an important sub-component of the Framework. The second edition of the assessment was launched in September 2020. The final report of the assessment was released on June 25, 2021. The assessment was open to all smart cities, all capital cities and all cities with population above 500,000 in 2011 census. The 126 participating cities were assessed through 28 diverse indicators across five thematic areas- energy and green buildings, urban planning, green cover and biodiversity, mobility and air quality, water management and waste management
