Authorities Place Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq Under House Arrest

Srinagar, Apr 06 : Authorities on Sunday placed Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, under house arrest, preventing him from attending an award ceremony organized by the Tibyan Quranic Research Institute at Saida Kadal Srinagar, reads a statement issued here.

“Mirwaiz was invited as the chief guest at the ceremony, which aimed to honour young Islamic calligraphers and promote the rich tradition of Quranic calligraphy. The event was was to be attended by scholars, ulema, and art enthusiasts from across the Valley,” reads the statement, as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin.

“His continued detention and restrictions on his religious and social responsibilities, especially during such significant occasions, are deeply regrettable and hurt the sentiments of the people. The organizers expressed their disappointment, stating that Mirwaiz’s presence would have greatly inspired the participants and honoured the contributions of the awardees,” the statement further reads.
