J&K Govt constitutes Departmental AI Groups for time-bound implementation of India AI Mission Projects
Jammu:The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted Department-Specific Groups of Officers for the time-bound implementation of select Artificial Intelligence (AI) use cases across key departments under the India AI Mission.According to Government Order No. 909-JK(GAD) of 2026 dated May 13, 2026, the decision has been taken pursuant to the resolutions adopted during the meeting of the UT-Level Steering Committee on Artificial Intelligence held on April 7, 2026.
The initiative aims to ensure focused on-ground execution of AI-based governance solutions by leveraging existing digital systems and available data with measurable outcomes and defined timelines, in alignment with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the India AI Mission.The identified departments include Public Works, Public Grievances, Health and Medical Education, School Education, Disaster Management, Skill Development, Agriculture Production, Finance, Power Development and Transport.
The proposed AI use cases include geo-spatial monitoring of roads and infrastructure using satellite and drone data, AI-enabled grievance redressal systems, disease surveillance and health triage, AI-supported learning systems in schools, disaster risk prediction and early warning systems, youth employment and skills matching platforms, agriculture and horticulture advisory services, financial analytics and fraud detection, smart energy management and road safety improvement mechanisms.
Senior officers including Krunal Patel and Soma S Dhavala have been entrusted with supervisory responsibilities across various departments. Technical support for several projects will be provided by Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics and experts from Indian Institute of Technology Jammu.
As per the Terms of Reference (ToRs), the departmental groups have been directed to finalise one or two implementable AI use cases within ten days based on the readiness of data and existing systems. The groups will also assess integration requirements, prepare implementation plans, roll out pilot projects, ensure measurable improvements in service delivery and submit periodic progress reports.
The order further states that all AI initiatives must ensure data security, privacy and responsible usage at every stage. The groups have also been directed to document solutions for future replication and scaling.The Information Technology Department, Jammu and Kashmir, has been designated as the nodal department for coordination and monitoring of the initiative. Progress of the projects will be periodically reviewed by the Steering Committee to ensure timely execution and achievement of tangible results.
