Action carried out under Nasha Mukt Abhiyan to dismantle narcotics networks and illegal assets

Kulgam: In a significant action under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, Police in Kulgam, in collaboration with the Revenue Department, retrieved nearly one kanal of State land allegedly occupied illegally by a person involved in drug peddling in the Chowgam area of Kulgam district.Officials said the action was carried out at Pratap Pora Chowgam after a joint verification by police and civil authorities established that the government land under Survey No. 274 had been unlawfully encroached upon. The land was subsequently restored to the custody of the Revenue Department in the presence of officials.

The accused, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat of Chowgam, is reportedly involved in a case registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Qazigund. Authorities said the retrieval operation forms part of the intensified campaign launched to dismantle the financial and logistical networks linked to narcotics trafficking in the district.A notice issued by the authorities declared the retrieved property as State land and cautioned the public against any attempt to re-occupy, transfer or use the land illegally, warning that violators would face legal consequences.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), said the district police are pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and all illegal activities associated with it. He said that apart from registering cases and arresting drug peddlers, police are also identifying properties and assets generated or occupied through unlawful means. He further stated that such measures are aimed at breaking the backbone of narcotics networks and protecting the younger generation from the growing threat of drug abuse. The SSP also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug peddling and other anti-social activities.
