Minister Sakina Itoo Clarifies: School Timing Policy Under Review, Not Final
Kulgam, July 8: Facing widespread public concern over the newly implemented school timing schedule, Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for School Education, Sakina Itoo, addressed the issue on Tuesday, assuring that the decision is still under review and not yet finalized.
During her visit to Kulgam, Itoo stressed that the reopening of schools was part of a broader effort to streamline the academic calendar and help students gear up for the November session.
“In-person classes have resumed from today, and we’ve received considerable feedback from students and parents about the revised timing,” she stated. “I want to make it very clear—this schedule is not rigid. If genuine concerns arise, we will reassess and make necessary changes.”
The Minister appealed for calm, urging both students and parents not to panic. She reiterated the administration’s openness to constructive input. “Our goal is never to cause discomfort. If this timing proves difficult, we are fully prepared to make appropriate adjustments,” she affirmed.
Pointing to the academic urgency, Itoo highlighted the limited time left before winter assessments. “It’s already mid-July. With just a couple of months left before exams, it’s essential we make the most of this time to ensure students are well-prepared,” she said.
She added that minimizing academic disruptions and bringing students back to a focused classroom environment remain the department’s foremost priorities. “Whether it involves reopening decisions, rescheduling breaks, or modifying daily routines—every step we take is aimed at academic stability and student well-being,” she explained.
Concluding on a hopeful note, Itoo said, “We want our youth to excel—whether within J&K or across India. That vision demands consistency and support, and we’re committed to providing both .”
