LS Polls: Low voter turnout in Pulwama, Shopian

Amid tough security arrangements, voting ended on Monday in the last phase of the three-phased Lok Sabha elections in Anantnag constituency. The constituency comprises of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian districts. On Monday, polling was held in Shopian and Pulwama districts with spanned over six assembly segments. However, during polling, many incidents of stone pelting were reported in Waged, Bhatnoor, Lurgam, Batagund, Tral town, Machama, and other parts of Pulwama and Shopian. The voting finally ended at 4 p.m. in both the districts, with total percentage of 2.38 (without migrant votes). “Voter turnout remained low with only 2.38 per cent cast in the twin districts,” an official said. Meanwhile, as per the official figures, the polling percentage was: Tral: 1.09%, Pampore: 5.26%, Pulwama: 0.77%, Rajpora: 1.64%, Wachi: 1.70% and Shopian: 4.0%. While Leh and Kargil recorded 49.07 and 60.91 percent turnout respectively,

Among others, NC candidate Hasnain Masoodi, PDP spokesman Dr. Harbaksh Singh, BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur, Congress General Secretary Surinder Singh Channi, Congress leader GM Mir and others also casted their votes
