Militant killed in encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian

A militant was killed during an ongoing gunfight with the security forces at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday morning.

A police official said that a gunfight broke out between the militants and the security forces in Amshipora-Ramnagri village during the wee hours of Friday.He said that forces laid
a seige around the village following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

“The militants hiding in the area opened fire on the forces and the later returned the fire immediately which led to an encounter,” the official said.

In the ensuing encounter, he said, one militant was killed whose identity was being ascertained.
