LEAD convenes meeting on Pharmaceutical Sector

 Jammu: The LJK Economic Growth & Development Dialogue (LEAD) organised a meeting that brought together various stakeholders of the Pharmaceutical sector in Jammu and Kashmir to discuss solutions for the challenges faced by the industry. Discussions revolved around various issues faces by industries, including – land availability, Turnover Incentive Scheme, and promoting diverse investments. During the meeting, concerns were raised about land allotments in industrial estates, complexities in acquiring private land, high land prices, and administrative hurdles, impacting new investments. Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the importance of promoting a diverse product portfolio in the pharmaceutical industry, including APIs, generic drugs, herbal cosmetics, and more. Encouraging new investments in the sector for manufacturing and establishing Hospitals, Skill Development Centres, and Research & Development facilities were also discussed. The participants emphasized on immense export potential of products from Jammu and Kashmir and gave various suggestions on how government’s support can give boost to Export Oriented Units in the region. Researchers from CSIR-IIIM were also present during the meeting. IIIM’s Cannabis Research project received praise, prompting the recommendation for further support to similar research initiatives in Pharmaceutical sector in the region. The meeting was held on Sunday at LEAD Head Office, Jammu and was chaired by Sh Sanjeev Sharma, LEAD’s Pharmaceutical Sector Coordinator. This meeting is one of many meeting which will be organised by LEAD aimed to facilitate constructive dialogue to boost various sector of economic growth and development and growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
