Kashmir in Deep Freeze: Srinagar Records Season’s Coldest at –4.5°C
Srinagar, Nov 28: Kashmir Valley reeled under an intense cold wave as temperatures dipped sharply across the region, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at –4.5°C, according to independent weather data.
Most parts of the Valley remained below the freezing point. Pahalgam settled at –5.5°C, Pampore at –6.0°C, and Pulwama at –6.2°C. Shopian reported one of the lowest readings at –6.7°C, followed by Baramulla at –5.9°C, Anantnag at –6.2°C, and Budgam and Kupwara both at –4.8°C.
Other temperatures reported from across Kashmir include:
Qazigund (–4.4°C), Bandipora (–4.9°C), Awantipora (–4.8°C), Ganderbal (–3.5°C), Sonamarg (–3.8°C), and Kulgam (–2.8°C).
Gulmarg remained relatively milder at –1.4°C, while Kokernag recorded –1.8°C.
In north Kashmir, Zethan Rafiabad touched –5.3°C.
Zojila Pass continued to be the coldest point in the region, freezing at a bone-chilling –16.0°C.
In the Jammu region, most areas stayed above the freezing point. Jammu recorded 9.4°C, with Katra and Kathua at 8.2°C, and Jammu Airport at 9.8°C. Higher reaches, however, experienced colder conditions, including Bhaderwah (–0.5°C), Rajouri (1.4°C), Ramban (3.2°C), Batote (3.6°C), Udhampur (3.6°C), Doda (2.9°C), Kishtwar (3.5°C), Reasi (6.4°C) and Banihal (3.6°C).
In Ladakh, winter tightened its grip as Leh dipped to –8.6°C, Kargil to –9.6°C, and Nubra Valley to –8.3°C.
The Meteorological Department has forecast mainly dry weather over Jammu & Kashmir for the next week, with cloudy conditions likely on December 2 and 3.
