GDC Tral organises Intra-collegiate debate

Tral, 18 March: Department of English Language and Literature, GDC Tral on Thursday organized an intra-collegiate debate titled, “Better mode of Learning: Online or Offline?” in which seventeen debaters and orators of the college participated.
The programme was formally initiated with the welcome address by Prof. Tariq Ahmad Najar.
In his brief address full of wit, he welcomed the whole gathering and thanked them for gracing the occasion by their presence.
Prof. Bashir Ahmad (HOD Pol. Science) presided over the proceedings of the inaugural session.
While throwing the debating competition open, he in his unique fluent speech full of flavour, urged the students to take advantage of the available infrastructure and learned faculty in exploring their hidden torrents of creativity and talent.
He also applauded the Department of English Language and Literature for organizing such a wonderful program and title of great significance for today’s debate.
The technical session of the program was conducted in the Conference Hall of the college in which all the debaters were divided in two groups.
After the instructions by the program moderators, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Dar and Dr. Hilal Ahmad Wani, both the groups were asked to briefly introduce themselves and put forward their key arguments individually.
Many core issues were raised by the participants from both the sides which triggered an interesting debate.
The debate lasted for two hours with arguments, counter arguments and rebuttal.
The performance of the debaters was closely monitored by a team of three judges; Prof. Mohd Syed Lone, Prof. Syeda Laila Khalid and Prof. Aadil Rehman.
After painstaking analysis of the performance of all the participants, Ms. Noor U Saba of UG 5th Semester won the title of the Great Debater of the Program.
Besides, all the participants were presented with certificates of participation, memento and Certificate of Merit was presented to Noor U Saba for her outstanding performance.
Vote of thanks and concluding remarks were presented by the Head, Department of English Language and Literature Prof. Ishaq Ahmad Wani.
