Four-day “AgriTech AI” workshop concludes at SKUAST-J

Sher-e-Kashmir  University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), under the visionary leadership of Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, concluded a four-day capacity-building workshop titled “AgriTech AI: Tools, Trends, and Techniques for Smart Agricultural Practices” w.e.f 2-5 December, 2025. The programme has been organized under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) Project on Sensor-Based Smart Agriculture, aimed at accelerating the adoption of digital and AI-driven innovations in the farming landscape of Jammu & Kashmir.

14 lectures on various aspects like role of AI and ML in Fruit Science, Engineering and Statistics were delivered by eminent scientists viz Dr. Pawanesh Abrol from University of Jammu, Dr. Gourav and Dr.Harnain Kour from Central University Jammu apart from SKUAST Jammu scientists.There were 23 participants from the Faculty of Horticulture, Agriculture, Engineering, and Basic Science reflecting a strong multi-departmental commitment to technological transformation in agriculture. There were 23 participants, including 12 females and 11 males, some of whom were international participants.

The hands-on training in GIS mapping, remote sensing applications, data analytics, and big data management using advanced statistical platforms such as R and Python.  Some experts delivered insightful lectures on various aspects of AI in agriculture, including topics such as Machine Vision in Horticulture, Sensor-driven Smart Agriculture, the Cloud-to-Crop Drone Revolution, and Integrating AI in Modern Agriculture.

These presentations highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in transforming agricultural practices, from improving crop management with machine vision to enhancing efficiency through smart sensors and drones. The experts from Jammu University and the Central University of Jammu enriched the sessions by sharing cutting-edge research, practical applications, and future collaboration opportunities with SKUAST-Jammu for strengthening AI-driven agricultural solutions in the region.

The valedictory session began with a welcome address and presentation of report of an overview of workshop, feedback provided by the participants by Dr. Manish Kr. Sharma, Co-PI.  The Dean of FOAE, Dr. Sushil Sharma, PI of HADP Project -No 17 who highlighted the urgency of integrating emerging technologies for sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. He also assured that such type of practical training shall be organized for research scholars and officers of Department.

Dr. Parshant Bakshi, Co-PI. also shared his experience and encourage the students to use AI and ML in their future research as they are ambassador of this project in SKUAST Jammu as well as promote digital adoption among farmers, and continue exploring new opportunities in agri-tech. Dr.Vinay Kumar conducted the proceedings of Valedictory function. He thanked all resource persons, participants, and organizers for their support in making this workshop of the project a grand success. Dr. Nishant Jasrotia, organizing secretary conducted hands on training which participants appreciated.
