Awareness cum sensitisation seminar held in GDC Tral

March 20: The Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell in collaboration with Women Development Cell of Govt. Degree College Tral on Saturday organised an awareness cum sensitisation seminar titled “Protection Against Sexual Harassment vis-à-vis POSH Act, 2013” in the mini-auditorium of the college.

The aim of the program was to aware the female students and employees regarding the legal protection warranted by the constitution to safeguard them from exploitation in any form.

The inaugural session was initiated by the welcome address by Prof. Laila Khalid (Convenor, Women Development Cell). Dr. Fahmida Wani (Convener Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell) delivered the introductory address.

In her speech, she highlighted the role and functioning of the anti-sexual harassment cell of the college and stressed the students to contact the cell on helpline numbers in case any such mishap takes place.

The Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Mir in his inaugural address vociferated that GDC Tral is proud to be the zero tolerance sexual harassment campus.

He stressed that not only girls, but boys must also be imparted legal awareness regarding the sexual harassment.

He also impressed upon the cell to organise special legal awareness cum sensitisation programmes for men to warn and sensitise them regarding the repercussions and legal implications of resorting to sexual harassment.

In the technical session of the program, the resource person of the event, Mr. Mohd Ashraf Wani (Advocate, J&K Hon’ble High Court, Kashmir) delivered a very informative and comprehensive presentation and spoke at length about POSCO Act 2012 and POSH Act, 2013.

He emphasised upon the need to come forward and shun fear whenever anyone among them is confronted with such situations and avail legal protection.

The resource person also voiced that there is dire need to spread awareness about the sexual harassment and the ramifications thereof among the masses which can help to a larger extent in combating harassment.

In the felicitation ceremony, the Principal of the college Prof.(Dr) Bashir Ahmad Mir presented Certificate of Appreciation and memento to the resource person.
