Awantipora Police Foil Attempt to Smuggle Saffron Seeds Out of J&K
Awantipora, Aug 13: Acting on specific information about the illegal transportation of saffron seeds (saffron corms) outside the Union Territory, Awantipora Police set up a special naka, leading to the apprehension of four persons.
The operation, led by SHO Police Station Awantipora Inspector Ajaz Ahmad and IC PP Toll Plaza SI Ishfaq Ahmad, intercepted a Swift car (registration number JK02DG-5090) and recovered four bags of saffron seeds weighing approximately 150 kg.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Ashok Kumar, son of Roshan Lal, resident of Sonipat, Haryana

Prem Singh, son of Ram Ji Lal, resident of Goyal Vihar, Delhi

Gulzar Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Rehman Khan, resident of Seer Mattan

Ahmad Din Choudhary, son of Mohammad Albar Choudhary, resident of Gujar Nagar, Jammu
The seized saffron seeds were handed over to the Agriculture Department for further necessary action.
