Sources said that his release can cause a severe dent in the constituencies considered to be political bastions of the Peoples Conference and the National Conference in North Kashmir.

Rashid was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on August 9—four days after New Delhi revoked the special status of the erstwhile state—in connection with a “terror funding” case in Kashmir.
