“I Support Article 370. I’m a Dimaagi Naxal,” Says Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar, Aug 17 : Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday described herself as a “dimaagi Naxal” while asserting her support for Article 370, in an apparent response to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks on the term.
Mufti, who heads the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the statement in a post on X after Rijiju said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not used the term “dimaagi Naxals” for opposition leaders.
“I support Article 370. I’m a dimaagi Naxal,” Mufti said in her post.
Rijiju, in his post, sought to explain who, according to him, could be described as “dimaagi Naxals”.
He listed among them those who support Maoists and reject the Constitution, back separatists and Article 370, and those who advocate separating the northeastern region from the rest of the country.
Mufti’s remarks came a day after Prime Minister Modi used the term “dimaagi Naxals” during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort.
The prime minister had warned against what he described as an ideological form of Naxalism that had moved beyond armed groups in forests and was attempting to influence institutions and policies.
Modi had also called upon citizens to identify and isolate such elements, alleging that they could encourage violence and instability through ideological means.(KNS).
