SRINAGAR, May 18: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Sunday expressed deep grief over the demise of Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, and appealed to the authorities to immediately allow the jailed MP to attend the funeral and last rites of his father on humanitarian grounds.

AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said late Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh was a respected teacher and a dignified personality known for his contribution to education, moral values and society. He described him as a humble and wise individual who remained a strong source of support for Er Rashid throughout his political and social life.

Inam Un Nabi said the death of Haji Sahib has left the family, relatives, admirers and well-wishers in deep sorrow across Jammu and Kashmir.

Making a heartfelt appeal to the Government of India and concerned authorities, the AIP spokesperson urged that Er Rashid be granted immediate release or permission to attend the funeral prayers and participate in the final rites of his father.

He said humanitarian considerations should rise above political differences during moments of personal tragedy and grief.

“A son should not be deprived of bidding a final farewell to his father. This is an extremely painful situation for the bereaved family,” he said.

The party leadership and workers of AIP also extended solidarity with Er Rashid and his family during the difficult time and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon. May Almighty Allah grant the deceased a highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and give strength and patience to the bereaved family,” the statement said.(KNC)
