Omar Abdullah Condemns Global Silence on Israel’s Strike, Draws Parallel with Ukraine War

Srinagar, June 13: Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sharply criticized the international community’s silence over Israel’s recent military action against Iran, comparing it to the reaction following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He also reflected on the growing discontent such global double standards cause, particularly among the people in Kashmir.

Addressing media persons, Abdullah stated, “Today, Israel did what Russia did in Ukraine. But when Israel attacks Iran, global powers—whether it’s America, Europe, or others—choose to remain silent.” He questioned the legitimacy of the attack, saying, “As far as I know, Iran hadn’t given any reason to be attacked. This seems to be a pre-emptive strike. The silence of world powers on such actions is deeply unfortunate.”

He also commented on the recent Air India tragedy in Ahmedabad involving a Dreamliner aircraft, which crashed shortly after takeoff. “One passenger has died. Thankfully, the rest were saved. It’s still unclear if there were any doctors or students on board. The Dreamliner had never experienced an accident like this before,” he remarked.

Extending his sympathies, Abdullah added, “We stand in solidarity with the families affected by this tragedy. It is vital that the incident is thoroughly investigated to ensure such accidents do not recur.”
