Shopian, June 22: In a significant development, the government has reportedly terminated two doctors who were part of the post-mortem team in the infamous Asiya Neelofar Shopian rape and murder case. The doctors in question are Dr. Bilal Dalal and Dr. Nighat Shaheen. This recent action echoes the suspension they faced back in 2009, under the Omar Abdullah-led government.

Dr. Nighat Shaheen’s report following the autopsies indicated the occurrence of rape for both women, a finding that was subsequently supported by a forensic report. However, due to certain shortcomings in the autopsy procedure, the exact cause of death could not be definitively established.

According to sources, Dr. Nighat Shaheen has been accused of conspiring to defame, discredit, and cause harm to police and security personnel.

On the other hand, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Dalal has been accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of incorrectly identifying a lacerated wound on Asiya Jan’s head as an incised wound. Additionally, he is alleged to have provided false opinions on the cause of death, citing hemorrhagic shock and bleeding from multiple injuries in Asiya Jan’s case, and neurogenic shock in Neelofar Jan’s case.

The Jan Commission, established at the time, also noted the lapses made by the doctors during the autopsies.

Although sources have confirmed the termination of Dr. Bilal Ahmed Dalal and Dr. Nighat Shaheen, there has been no official statement on the matter at this time.
