Follow up: Kokernag Illegal construction goes under the nose of KDA, officials enjoying chairs have not been transferred from last 8 years

Anantnag: Amid huge illegal construction going on in tourist resort at kokernag, the kokernag development authority officials have failed to act against the violators, rather prefer to keep mum on illegal constructions.
According to official sources the CEO of KDA kokernag development authority has not been transferred from the last eight years, the official is enjoying the chair and acting as a mute spectator over the huge illegal constructions going under the jurisdiction of KDA (Kokernag Development Authority). Sources said that the department has not yet taken any action against the violators amid the media reports of illegal construction galore at tourist place kokernag, the department has not dared to act against the violators, sources said.
In this regard , Arising state recently carried a story with the headline of “Illegal construction galore at Tourist resort kokernag, officials mum, Director ULB assures action”.
Official sources said that in 2011, the government approved the master plan of Kokernag, but unfortunately the concerned department KDA hasn’t implemented that order since 2011. The KDA kokernag development authority has failed to implement the Master Plan which was approved in 2011 official sources said.
Added that the Development Authority hasn’t even created BOCA Section and Khilafwarzi Wings for effectively implementing the Master Plan and protecting the fragile environment around tourist attracting spots including Asia’s largest Trout Farm.
The illegal construction is going on in broad daylight without any permission from the concerned departments in Kokernag. The violators have even no town plan NOC nor the BOCA has approved their file for construction in kokernag, official sources said.
However, Arising state tried to contact the CEO kokernag, but he didn’t again pick up our repeated calls.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla a day before took cognizance of reports related to illegal construction in Kokernag. DC Anantnag has constituted a task force to identify and demolish any illegal structures which falling under the jurisdiction of KDA and Muncipal committee kokernag.
The task force to be headed by SDM Kokernag comprises officials from Revenue, Police and MC Kokernag.
The joint task force will identify any illegal constructions in contravention to Kokernag Master Plan and stop the illegal constructions. They will also initiate a process for demolishing any constructions already undertaken. The team will submit a monthly report. The team has been directed to complete the entire process in 3 months.
As per the order issued, the step has been taken to preserve the ecologically fragile tourist resort of Kokernag and prevent any irreversible damage.
Dr Singla said that the order is aimed at curbing illegal construction in the tourist resort. He said that strict action under rules will be initiated against violators. He added that any official found to be in cohesion with the violators will also be taken to task under rules.
CEO Kokernag Development Authority has been directed to issue building permission in consonance with BOCA rules and as per approved Kokernag Master Plan. The applicants can also apply for building permission through the official website of KDA the order reads.
