Orthopedic Association assigns, “Save Self Save One” as theme for 2021

National Bone and Joint Day is being celebrated on 4th of August every year since 2012. Today’s Press Meet is being organized to highlight various social activities which have been planned for this year.  Every year week long activities starting from 1st of August to 7th of August have been organized throughout the country.For 2021, Indian Orthopaedic association has assigned, “Save SELF Save ONE” as the theme. This year the focus is on deaths occurring due to trauma and accidents in India . India ranks number 1 in term of road traffic accident deaths across the 199 countries reported in the World Road Statistics, 2018 followed by China and US. A total of 4,49,002 road accidents have been reported by States and Union Territories (UTs) in the calendar year 2019, Claiming 1,51,113 lives and Causing injuries to 4,51,361 persons.Young adults in the age group of 18 – 45 years accounted for nearly 69.3 percent of road accident victims. The working age group of 18 – 60 accounted for a share of 84.3 percent in the total road accident deaths.  Males in number of total accident deaths was 86% while the share of females hovered around 14% in 2019.Most of these deaths occur due to lack of  medical care in first golden hour after accident .Many of these accident victims life can be saved by providing proper first aid immediately after accident which can very well be provided by any common man or police personal if they are trained for this.This link of proper first aid /basic life support immediately after accident is missing .We at Indian orthopaedic association have decided to provide training to One Lac students ,Police personal, common man during bone & Joint week from 1st August to 7th August 21 and make them life saviours .This training would be provided by the members of Indian Orthopaedic association all across India. The orthopaedic surgeons across  India will be conducting  online first aid training for the students and general public. The Mission  is One Lac Life Saviours.Along with this they will be educated about how to keep bones healthy and Strong. Apart from this many other activities like talks on Work life balance, Life beyond professional Life, Financial health and Self-Health would be conducted by the members of Indian Orthopaedic Association and Jammu and Kashmir Orthopaedic Association during this week.
