Awqaf committees form an ally to prevent pandemic profiteering, black marketing in Anantnag

Anantnag: Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, after the instances of black marketing and profiteering of essential services were reported here in south Kashmir’s Anantnag District, several Awqaf committees here have amalgamated to keep a check on black marketing and profiteering of essential commodities.
According to sources, several Awqaf Committees including Kadipora, Sarnal Payeen, Sarnal Bala, Gajnag, Mattan chowk and Laizbal awqaf committees formed a 12 member single committee namely “Masjid Awqaf Committee” who will check the market to curb pandemic profiteering of essential commodities during the lockdown.
Talking to Arising state Abdul Rasheed Bhat president of the committee said that taking advantage of the ongoing lockdown various grocery shopkeepers, vendors and wholesale dealers in Anantnag are selling items at exorbitant prices, the black marketing is on rise here in Anantnag District, that is why they have made this committee to keep a vigil on black marketing and profiteering of essential commodities.
He said that during this lockdown the concerned department officials are not reaching everywhere, this impacts mostly poor people who can’t afford to buy essentials at exorbitant prices.
However, talking to Arising state Assistant Director Food Anantnag Wali Mohd hailed and appreciated the action taken by Awqaf Committees and said that this step taken by local people will be beneficial for the commoners.
